The local government system has always contributed to the development and solution of problems on grass root level and the one put in place in the year 2001 was unique in its essence and was really designed to devolve the power to the man in the lowest rung of the social ladder. Chitral being one of the backward areas of the country, has always consigned to oblivion by the successive government in the past and its destiny solely depended on the leadership it to it voted. CITIZENS COMMUNITY BOARDS, FACT OR FICTION
Citizens community boards (CCBs) were provided in the Local Government Ordinance 2001 as one of its important tools to empower the people on grass root level and ensure the solution of their problems on local basis. The mobilization of the CCBs however, has remained a distant dream and thus it has utterly failed to realize the objectives for which it was designed. This failure can be easily attributed to the government functionaries and the lack capacity of the elected representatives. The Devolution Trust for Community Empowerment (DTCE) has successfully mobilized the community. It has helped in the formation of CCBs on local level, their registration, identification of development plans and their implementation. SBBU to establish Chitral campus and start MA, M.Sc and B.S classes
CHITRAL: The Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Sheringal Upper Dir will start M.A./M.Sc. classes in a number of Science and Humanities subjects in its Chitral campus from this session for which building has been acquired on rent and teaching faculty will be selected shortly. In a press release issued by the university’s Chitral dealing office here on Thursday, it was said that establishment of Chitral campus was the longstanding demand of the people of Chitral who were still deprived of the facilities of higher education. A team of syndicate members of the university visited Chitral headed by its registrar Badshah Hussain and controller of examinations Professor Muhammad Rose Khan who selected building for the campus. A day for Culture and Cuisine in Chitral on Navrouz
The Tourism Corporation Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa(TCKP) and Chitral Association for Mountain Area Tourism (CAMAT) joined hands to celebrate Navrouz and, with it, to honour the beauty of Chitrali culture and cuisine. A festival of indigenous cuisine and local music was set up here in Chitral town with a purpose to market the local culture through the tourism industry. Shoshp, Chhira Shapik, Ghara, Shoshpalaki, Chamborogh, Sanabachi, Mol and Lajeik were showcased. Cooking and food generally associated with women in the entire region and linking this sort of tradition with mainstream economic activity would primarily translate into empowering women of Chitral economically.
